1 Is there a hospital in Pottuvil?
 Pottuvil has a hospital which is well equipped by rural standards, with four doctors trained to western standards.

Private care is also available, and this is generally to be recommended to visitors from overseas

2 Can I obtain medicines in Pottuvil
 Pottuvil has an excellent pharmacy with knowledgeable staff. Remedies for most common ailments are available, including antibiotics, cough medicines etc. These are available off-the-shelf, no prescription required.

However, if you have a requirement for special drugs, it is sensible to bring them with you, as if they are out of stock they may take some time to obtain.

3 Are fuel and vehicle services available in Pottuvil?
 Both petrol and diesel are available at the filling station in Pottuvil, and two-stroke fuel is also widely used in vehicles here and in plentiful supply.

The Tyre House is able to repair tyres, and also stocks a range of new tyres.

Some spare parts are also available, and a number of very capable mechanics work here, who can certainly fix problems like burst hoses, blown fuses etc., and will apply considerable ingenuity in solving any other problem. However, if you are travelling around Sri Lanka in your own vehicle, it is sensible to service it well before you depart, as where a part is not available youjr journey may be halted for some time while it is obtained

4 What banking facilities are available?
 Pottuvil has two banks, the Peoples Bank and the Bank of Ceylon.

You will be able to exchange foreign currency, travellers cheques for Sri Lanka Rupees at the Bank of Ceylon, though you will need to produce your passport, and you should also retain the exchange docket they provide as you will not be able to exchange Rupees back to another currency without it.

The Bank of Ceylon accepts NO Visa cards and no other type of credit card. Please note that we DO accept credit cards (Visa and MasterCard) at the Stardust Beach Hotel.

No ATM facilities are available in Pottuvil - the nearest ATM machine is in Monaragala, about 70 kms away
